Since my last post, many moons ago, I have moved from Florida to Washington State….and since Covid restrictions temporarily ‘squashed’ my traveling bug, I’ve had to focus on the beauty in my back yard rather than distant lands. In doing that, I have discovered that hummingbirds often visit my yard. Some even stay through the winter! I am not an expert by any means, but it seems (and research seems to verify) that we have 4 different types of hummingbirds here in Eastern Washington. One type stays all year round–Anna’s Hummingbird, one stays only in the summer–Black-Chinned Hummingbirds, and two kinds migrate through in the spring and fall–Rufous and Calliope. I can fairly easily identify males, but the females all look the same to me. As do the babies. Therefore, I rarely identify the hummingbirds on my website. My goal, more than anything, is to capture their spirit and beauty.
